Irish whiskey, Saint Patrick, Guinness beer. Sister of the United Kingdom. The westernmost European Nation that is the Emerald Island, boasts of having one of the deepest cultural heritages of all of the old continent, compromised of epic tales of conquest, faith, and courage.
Ireland sights are filled with rolling hills and long green vales alongside more rugged, rocky areas in its landscape with many peaks, mountains, and cliffs to awe at. The Irish people love banter and expressive use of language to tell their stories, so much that many great writers of the English language came from this very magical place. Get to know the island before taking your own Irish adventure with these books, they might just bring you luck!
#1 Ireland: Small-town Itineraries for the Foodie Traveler by Zeneba Bowers and Matt Walker
Little Roads Europe (LittleRoadsEurope.com) has a series of award-winning guidebooks, one of which is a small-town foodie guide to Ireland. The book contains our favorite places to visit, to eat, to see, and to stay. Our Little Roads travel style specializes in finding unique and memorable experiences, rather than ticking off the the usual tourist checklist sights.
#2 Ireland: A Novel by Frank Delaney
A Novel. While fiction, he gives the history of Ireland through a storyteller, a now almost extinct profession. On my recent trip to the Emerald Island, we visited many of the places in the stories and on the last day, I met my storyteller, the driver-guide of a bus tour to the ancient site of Newgrange.
A great read, but even better, a listen. The author, a BBC announcer, reads his book with a lovely accent.
