Every year, around 30 million people go on a cruise. 2021 is expected to be no different, especially as social distancing and travel restrictions are lifted.

A cruise can be a perfect way to relax and unwind. Plus, they’re packed with activities your whole family can enjoy.

But before you can board your ship and head off to your cruise destinations, you need to plan out how to get to your cruise port.

There are a number of ways to travel to your cruise port. How you decide to get there will depend on how close you are, what time you need to arrive, the port location, and how much money you want to spend.

Read on to discover all the possible ways to get to your port of call.

Driving to Your Cruise Port

One of the simplest ways to get to your cruise port is by driving your own car there. Obviously, this only works if you live nearby or want to take a road trip to get there.

People enjoy driving themselves to their cruise departure destination because it means no worrying about packing for a flight or paying for airline tickets. Plus, when the cruise returns, you can hop in the car and head right home.

On the other hand, driving yourself means leaving your car at the port. Port parking fees can add up quickly. It’s certainly something to keep in mind when comparing prices of driving or flying.

Cruise Shuttles

If your cruise port is close to an airport, there’s a good chance the cruise line will offer a shuttle service. This is a great way to arrange hassle-free transportation.

The shuttle service can take you and other cruise passengers straight from the airport to your cruise port, and back when you return.

Cruise shuttles can be a bit pricier than other transportation options that you’d arrange on your own. For many, though, the convenience of using the cruise shuttle is worth the higher cost.

Taxis, Lyfts, and Ubers

When your flight lands, it can be easy to call a taxi, Lyft, or Uber to pick you up from the airport. These services are also great options if you are staying at a hotel the night before your cruise.

Taxis are usually a little more expensive than Lyft or Uber. However, sometimes taxis are the easiest option since they’re readily available at airports. Lyfts and Ubers can require more wait time and be difficult for someone who isn’t smartphone-savvy.

If your port is a far drive from the airport or hotel, these might not be great options because the cost can really add up. In that case, a shuttle or public transportation might be better choices.

Different port locations will offer different options, too. With a little research, you can find some great transportation tips for popular locations.

Safe Travels to Your Cruise Port

All in all, you’ll want to pick the travel option to your cruise port that makes you most comfortable. Weigh the pros and cons of all your options and consider what is most cost-effective and convenient for your situation.
