If you haven’t begun planning your family’s summer vacation yet, now’s the time to start. Disney World is a popular option, but several locations across the U.S. make for equally attractive (and often less expensive) options. These five vacations spots are excellent destinations sure to entertain parents and children alike.
1. Indianapolis
Indianapolis is home to the world’s largest children’s museum, which features both indoor and outdoor activities. With exhibits ranging from dinosaurs to spaceships, this interactive museum has hours’ worth of entertainment for all ages. You can also visit the famous Indianapolis Zoo or one of the city’s several historical monuments, such as the Indiana World War Memorial.
2. Wisconsin Dells
Wisconsin Dells is a collection of themed water parks and resorts. You can choose between staying at one of the resorts or one of the smaller motels, which often give you a wristband to access one of the waterparks. The Dells also features a strip of cute shops and restaurants. If you go, considering taking the family to Wizard Quest, an immersive adventure in which you find clues and solve riddles to free the four wizards of the realm.
3. Destin
Destin has a vast assortment of activities for all ages. It’s known, of course, for its beaches, which feature stunningly clear water and luxurious sand. Visitors can also visit some of the 90 shops that make up the Destin Commons. Your family can enjoy spectacular seafood, dolphin tours, and a host of water activities.
4. Florida Space Coast
The Space Coast bears its name for a reason, and it’s one destination your children will love. You and your family can select a viewing venue of your choice and watch a live rocket launch. Afterwards, visit the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, where you can meet a veteran astronaut and see the space shuttle Atlantis, among several other activities.
5. Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
If you love the great outdoors, Pigeon Forge is a beautiful area in the Smoky Mountains sure to make you forget about life for a while. You can indulge in mini-golfing or go-carting, or you can simply enjoy the many offerings that nature provides. Fans of country music can also visit Dollywood— Dolly Parton’s own theme park.
