Traveling by plane comes with a lot of restrictions and luggage requirements. Due to this it can be difficult to select bags that will be accepted by the airline and hold all of your essentials. Below are four backpacks that hold multiple compartments and are easy to carry, making them vital for your next plane trip.

#1 Atlas Adventure Pack

The Atlas Adventure Pack travel product recommended by Kene Ezeji-Okoye on Lifney.

It houses an absolutely astonishing amount of kit and still (just) fits in to standard airline carry-on sizes. Technically you’re supposed to remove the interior metal frame to get it down to carry on size but even with the bar in it’s about 1cm oversized and I’ve never once been questioned.

Not having to be separated from any of my essential kit is invaluable as is the fact that the pack is just really, really comfortable even when you’ve got 30 to 40 pounds of kit in it that you have to carry up a mountain. It’s been with me shooting and filming skiing in Kyrgzstan, Georgia, rappelling into crevasses in France – everywhere really.

#2 TLS Mother Lode Junior from eBags

The TLS Mother Lode Junior from eBags travel product recommended by Kelley Buttrick on Lifney.

Like many freelancers, as a voiceover talent, I can take my work with me when I travel, but I have to keep my recording gear protected and easily accessible since it usually triggers a TSA inspection. Not to mention, I always overpack and need room for last-minute clothing additions.

Finding the perfect backpack has been a challenge until last year when I bought the TLS Mother Lode Junior on eBags.

Because it’s a clamshell, I can pack my recording gear near the top of one half making it easily accessible to TSA agents and protected by the clothing I’ve packed around it. The exterior pockets are multifunctional for things I need quick access to like passport, purse, iPhone, Kindle and pens. The padded envelope in the pack is ideal for my MacBook Pro laptop and iPad.

Between this awesome backpack and my rolling carryon, I’ll never need to check a bag again.
